Working Together as a Community
School Responsibilities – Shwab Elementary Will
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction, in a supportive and effective learning environment, that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
- 100% of the faculty will be highly qualified instructors proficient with required state standards
- Teachers will receive professional development on current best practices instruction
- Teachers will implement and use grade level pacing guides and district scope and sequence guides, aligned with State Standards in each core subject
- The school will utilize MNPS Data Coaches and Instructional Facilitators to work with teachers to increase student academic achievement
- Students will have access to computers and technology in the library and classrooms
- Students with specific areas to strengthen will be provided supplemental instruction and/or web-based learning opportunities
- The Instructional Coaches will provide supplemental assistance in the areas of Reading and Math to teachers
- GATE services will be available for those students identified as advanced
- Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress
- Progress reports: will be distributed to students at the mid-way point of each grading period— September 4, November 6, February 5, and April 16
- Report Cards will be distributed to students following the end of each grading period – October 23, January 15, March 26, and May 20
- Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
- District-scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 31 (At this time the compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement)
- Parent-Teacher Conferences, S-Teams, and/or IEP-Team Meetings, (as needed)
- By telephone and/or email correspondence, (as needed)
- School Counselor consultations with students, parents, and/or staff as needed
- Special after-school programs involving parents and students, such as Girl Scouts, Parent University workshops, the Student Council, participation in the Disney play, Family Math and Reading Nights, music programs, holiday fun nights, etc.
- Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s classroom, and to observe activities as follows:
- Opportunities to help with fund raisers
- Volunteer with PBIS
- Opportunities to help in classrooms and on field trips as needed
- Opportunities to be a member of our Parent Advisory Group
- Assist with extracurricular activities such as Field Day, etc.
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Monitoring attendance
- Ensure my child is prepared for school and has an ample amount of rest each night
- Making sure that homework is completed
- Monitoring amount of television time
- Volunteering at school
- Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education
- Participating in decisions by being involved in the planning and review of the school’s parent involvement policy
- Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time
- Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school
- Attending school programs and meetings
- Showing respect and support for my child, the teacher and the school
Student Responsibilities
As the student, I will share in the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and work to achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, I will:
- Do my homework every day and ask for help when needed
- Read every day, both in and outside of school time
- Give my parents, or guardian all notices and information received by me from my school every day
- Always try to do my best in my work and behavior
- Show respect for myself, my school, and other people
- Obey school and bus rules
- Take pride in my school
